wood for cross

hi everyone, im new and dont know too much about wood types, pros and cons, etc, so any help would be gretly appreciated

so for my church, i haev to make a cross to be placed indoors
i was thinking wat kind of wood is:
-optimal
-will last long
-not make a mess
-easy to work with
