View Full Version : Deck Restoration (Kinda)

Hi all,

I am a noob or is that knob when it comes to timber decks. I laid a hardwood deck about a year ago. The timber is called Balau from indonesia. Of course it looked brilliant when I first oiled it a month after laying but now it is black. I found a web site that has products to clean and restore decking but they are all in the states. One particular site is

My decking looks exactly like the before photo at the top of the page but used to look exactly like the after photo.

Can I get these products over here or can any of you recommend an alternative.

Even better has anyone performed this transformation and can give me some friendly advice. Thanks heaps. Hope this was not too much for my first post.

Dils, Feast Watson have two products which may be suitable. You can call them on 1800 252 502. Their cattledog is available from Hardwares who stock their products.

There are a few different types of these chems. Like squizzy said, Feast Watson do one - I think wattyl hvae got one too. It is basically just diluted oxyalic acid (I think).

Go to bunnies etc and they will have a range. Get a broom that looks like a scrubbing brush on a pole and add a bit of elbow grease. Too easy. I also increase the strength that they suggest and let it soak for like 10m or 15 mins before hosing off. Make sure you wet down the deck first otherwise you spend bloody ages tring to wet it enough to scrub.

Bought some of the Feast Watson stuff today. Will follow your instructions and see how we go.
