G'Day

I was just wondering if there was a reason why, when I opened the forums tonight there was a notice sort of thing linking to the statement Ubeaut made about us not defaming people on the forums or using them to vent personal beefs etc.

If I've stepped over a line somewhere :oo: I would assume a moderator would send me a message? :- Otherwise, well it's a bit hard to work out whether it's some general reminder to everyone or if I'm getting a specific reminder.:confuzzled:

(mods feel free to delete this post if it is inflaming a situation)

Cheers

Sick of idiots coming here with an agenda to slander or defame a business who they think has wronged them, without evidence, without thought of the consequence and usually because of their own stupidity or inabilities etc.

Most of these posts never get seen because they are moderated. Occasionally one gets missed for one reason or another. Yesterday we received yet another letter from a lawyer threatening defamation suite against us for something that slipped past moderation on Renovate Forum - The same thing was slated to be put on Woodwork Forums.

Had a gut full of it, so thought it was time to remind everyone of that part of the rules. Probably won't stop the disgruntled from posting but might stop the slander, etc that usually goes with a disgruntled post.

I will no longer waste my time (almost 5 hrs yesterday) trying to sort out the problem and placating wronged businesses, their lawyers, etc. From now on it will all come down on the poster and they can suffer the full consequence of their action.

Cheers - Neil

Thanks Guys for the replies

I'm sorry to hear you have been caused dramas Neil. The forums are a fantastic resource and source of community that would not be there without you.

In reading your post it strikes me that you are dealing with the negatives and we users see the positives. All I can do is say thankyou for providing the forums and facilitating the sense of community they help create. I hope that somehow that can, in a small way help redress the balance.

Many thanks

Just add a publicly available "Last logged IP address" on the member profile page (point the solicitors to it and they can do their own digging), and (to be fair to both sides) replace the offending post with a "Post deleted by request of Blah, Blah and Blah, solicitors for (business name or whatever)." (similar to how Google documents its takedown requests on the Chillingeffects.org (http://www.chillingeffects.org/) site).

I know that I like knowing which businesses resort to lawyers to fix perceived problems, rather than looking at how they position and promote a product, and giving possibly misleading impressions of what said product is capable of. (and yes, I've worked in enough customer service positions to know that the average customer can be pushing it to have a lukewarm IQ some days).

Just finished cleaning up the mess and problems created by this disgruntled non thinking idiot.

That totals around 9-1/2 hours of my valuable time completely and utterly wasted.

To anyone else who does the same there will no longer be any help from me or any other administrators or moderators. If you create the problem you can fend off the lawers yourself and suffer the consequences.

Neil - Not bloody happy!!! :~

That's funny I got one and immediately thought what have I done this time. Especially as how my post count is only about 10 just looked it's no 14.
I've made over 50 but most have been deleted.

Phew. I thought I was in deep doo-doo yet again. :o
