I have a slab of Mackay Cedar that is going to be a desktop. I am looking for a finish with the following criteria:

- hard enough to withstand the odd accidental biro or pen mark
- a "soft, low-sheen, natural-looking" finish. (The Chief Designer's words) She doesn't like the wet look of poly-u or Danish/tung oil but prefers linseed oil or waxes that have matt or satin finish.

Is there some sort of harder wax I could use? What about the Hard Shellac product from UBeaut?

Your joking, right...... What you want doesn't exist especially for a timber like cedar. If a manufacturer could come up with the specs to fulfil your needs he would become instant millionaire overnight. Would that it was me.

The only thing that will go even halfway close to what you want is frosted glass.

Sorry Dion you best tell The Chief Designer she's dreamin'.

Cheers - Neil :D
