I am restoring an old wooden suitcase fo rmy carving chisels. I have no idea what the timeber is, but I think it is something like Tasmanian Oak (I know it is neither oak nor necessarily Tasmanian). I stripped the old coating off, and used Wattyl aged baltic wood gel to stain it. That is as far as I've got. I did do a test piece first, but the actual colour is really too light for the effect I want. The instructions say one coat only is necessary. Can anyone tell me whether I can put a second coat over the first, making it darker, or preferably another coat of a darker Wattyl wood gel stain?
