G'Day
My name is Kieran and I'm 25 years old and live in Mandurah, WA. Originally from Scotland, I moved out here with my wife and two boys in search of a better life and a job.
The job situation for practical teachers is scarce. My wife and I had to make a decision, either move to Perth, Scotland or Perth, WA. As you can see it was a very difficult decision that we had to make! So I had an interview with the Department of Education in Glasgow and they offered me a job on the spot, said that the state was calling out for practical teacher. There was a small catch though, I had to sign a contract and before I knew where I was going, I could have ended up anywhere in WA, but we were lucky enough to get Pinjarra. I couldn't have asked for a better school to be placed in.
The user name has come from the nick name that the guys in work gave me when I arrived. It was either Braveheart or Macbeth, but it seems they prefered Braveheart!
Talk to you all later

Thanks for the welcome guys!
Munruben, if I was guaranteed the nice weather back home it would have made my decision a bit harder. But seeing it has been snowing on and off for the past 3 months I have definitely made the right choice!:2tsup:

Welcome BraveheartinOz. It is 60 years since I toured Scotland on my bike - in summer time. Hope you get a lot of satisfaction in your practical teaching and that your school has a nicely equipped workshop.

I have been very lucky with my placing. People are very welcoming and always willing to help.
Unfortunetly the department is very old and so are the machines. Really could do with an update but with the current financial restraints on schools it's not going to happen anytime soon! So I'm stuck with what I've got. But on the brighter side I do have a better budget over here!

Welcome to the forum.
I have fond memories of Mandurah as a kid, fishing under the bridge.

A big welcome BraveheartinOz,
You sure picked a good spot to move to. :D
Your name is appropriate - I wouldn't be a high school teacher for quids!
We're getting quite a group in Mandurah, maybe we should have a get together.

G'day Braveheart and welcome to the West and the forum. I saw some shots of Perth Scotland last night on Gryff Ryss Jones' program about the rivers. What a beautiful town, but I imagine it's a bit colder and greyer in winter than Perth WA.
