I am looking to install a above ground pool on top of my garage. I know that i have to have deep concrete footings for steel posts to sit on and then have steel beams running across teh posts and then install elevated concrete or concrete plates as teh base for the pool. Can this be done and how do you calculate the material needed. I want to get some idea before going and paying engineer to calculate thsi if it is not possible. The pool size will be L6m x W4m x D1.8m.

Well, that is going to be quite heavy.
The water alone will weigh 43.2 tonnes.
In use, that means 43.2 tonnes in motion. Amplify this by the distance above the ground and you have some serious engineering problems to solve.
I would be consulting the engineers right from the very beginning of this project.

It would probably be easier to demolish the existing garage structure rather than try to incorporate it.

It's quite possible to do - it's a relatively simple engineering problem to work out how many and what size of steel/concrete beams you'll need to support 40+ tonnes of water.

However, in this case possible may not equal affordable - I'd guestimate that you won't see a price under $150,000 to build it, and I have a feeling that is on the low side! Basically, if you can't afford to throw money at an engineering firm to do a rough scope of the project, you can't afford to build it.
