I have been watching this forum for quite some time now. We are also victims of Scotts scam.
We ordered our camper in Nov 2009. We have heard all the same excuses and sob stories as the rest of you. We threatened legal action and eventually got the trailer, tent and kitchen. We are still waiting to get electric brakes, tool box and solar panels but Im not holding my breath. We were so excited when we ordered our trailer, but the whole experience has been one of stress and heartache. The trailer he supplied us with is nothing like the one we saw in his Williamstown factory. Its CRAP, and definitely not suitable for off road use. Its less than a couple of months old and its already starting to rust. I suppose at least we have got something, which is a lot more than what others seem to have got, but its not the point. We paid Scott our hard earned savings and have not got what we paid for.
Scott, if you read this, Im quite sure you know who I am. I am not going to let this go, and I will get what is still owed to us. I am a strong believer in karma and I honestly believe that one day you will get yours. I can't believe that I was STUPID enough to get involved with this conman in the first place. But what we saw at his Williamstown factory was a great product that was great value for money, and we liked the idea of supporting a local business.
I dont know how this lowlife mongrel keeps getting away with this. Surely what he is doing is fraud???
A local business in the area who knows of him told me he is still operating out of Riverside Ave, Werribee, and his business is called Riverside Campers. There is no advertising etc on the factory, but last time I checked there was definitely activity there (about 2 weeks ago).

Wouldn't some of his actions be fraud or other criminal action? Try talking directly to the fraud squad, rather than your local police station.
Sometimes they seem reluctant to take on something that seems too hard, they may need a letter from your local member to get them moving.

The QLD police have referred me to the e-crime division and have filed a report which I am sending with a few other details to the VIC police. This is where it gets harder because the state police don't talk to each other. I have also contacted the Federal police as I was scammed online. They have given me numbers to contact if the state Police find it too hard. They also recommend that EVERYONE who has been scammed or ripped off by Scott Mackinnon or Graham Mackinnon to contact SCAMwatch home (http://www.scamwatch.gov.au) this is an ASIC website. This could all go away if these people answered phone calls and emails and also would not have arisen if they did what they were paid to do.

The local member is a great idea especially if you have reported it to police and haven't had any action yet.

Last chance boys, fix your wrong doings or come for the ride with us

We have NOT got our trailer or our money back. We bought ours on the 16th August 2009, maybe its getting delivered this September. Add us to the list.

Maybe, maybe not. Fraud is difficult as there needs to be a component that shows he is attempting to permanently deprive. If he is "trying" to meet the orders and "will eventually get them done" then it is a civil matter.

If he shows intent to keep the money and not give the product then it is fraud.

That said, it should be reported to both the local police fraud squad and the AFP website.

Good luck!

Just to let those know whats happening at My end, if you read the post I made a little while ago ....Short story..
Bought a Camper trailer from Scott on Ebay, Paid in full, Never recieved it as it was always being repaired, Then finally was told that it will be repaired and in the mean time ill get my money back until such time.
Well Yesterday, 17/6/10 recieved a call from tyhe Werribee CIU about my Trailer. ?
Asking question about where I bought it, Price all that, then he asked where it was.
I said it should be at His Factory as its being repaired after the Electric brakes stuck on and busted the bearings, The Det Sgt then said it been ON SOLD to a gentleman in WA who unfortunatetly paid $15,000 to scott and by accounts its only a standard 7x4 trailer with nothing else, no tent, kitchen, just a bare trailer.
So anyway Ive been told that due to this with My trailer being onsold that they will be speaking with Scott today (17/6/10) about this as its become quite serious, THEFT and another matter as well.

I can now tell you all that SCOTT MACKINNON has been Charged with the On sell of my Camper Trailer but my bad news its at WA, will be hearing next week about making a statement and seeing pics on whats left and seeing about making a claim with my insurance.

So least some good news as he is Finally getting what he deserves, Stupid thing was, I never cancelled the reg on my trailer so straight away when he onsold it that became theft.

I am happy to recieve private Private Messages about this ...

Hi everyone. My wife and i have been keeping an eye on this thread for about a week now. We own a Johnno's Camper Trailer franchise in Gippsland and we too fell for his scams. This poor excuse for a human contacted our Geelong Agent looking to hire 6 trailers for his employees to live in while doing work on a pipe line in Ouyen. Graeme, our Geelong Agent sent out emails to all Vic Agents to see if we were interested in hiring a trailer out for at least 6 months. Couldn't knock back that sort of money so we agreed to supply one of our hire trailers with a wall kit as well. Anyway, he ended up only needing 4 trailers so took delivery of them and payed deposit by cheque. Turns out it bounced like a ball and then the he said he wanted to buy them. Long story short(ish) he never intended to hire our trailers and he stole the 4 of them and apparently on sold them on the side of the road. We have since found one on eBay and it's in police hands. Unfortunately for me it wasn't ours and it had been heavily modified. We got hold of Consumer Affairs (Phil- thanks to this site for his info..) and they put us in touch with a Detective Sargent Steve Daniliuk from Altona North Police - 03 9392 311. We spoke with Steve yesterday afternoon and he informed us the the lowlife Scott has been officially charged with theft of 4 Johnno's Camper Trailers and 2 Shipping Containers from Sydney. His hearing is on July 7th but not sure at which court. I think Det. Sgt Daniliuk would be more then pleased to hear from anyone with MORE info on Scott.

I can tell you all, I'm not a happy man at the moment!! Lets hope he sees the inside for all this.

Hi Everyone, thanks for the call today Glock it was interesting. I strongly encourage anyone that has been scammed by Graham Mackinnon or Scott Mackinnon or grahammac (Ebay username) in regards to any type of fraud including camper trailers or Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 15-pc. Combo Kit to come forward now. Momentum is extremely high now, and if at the least you want justice for these conmen act now. Again send all your details to the ASIC site scamwatch and follow it up with a call to Werribee CIU (03 97429444) they know all about it and there is a Detective assigned to this issue.

G'day All.

Very interesting conversation with a Detective @ Werribee CIU this morning.

I informed him of what we have been going through and where we are at as of this point in time.

I also rang and spoke to username: McKinnon (Matt) today. Again a very interesting conversation. The level of lowness that Scott has sunk to is beyond belief.

We have completed the Scam online form as listed in a post above.

I urge anyone that is in the process of taking action against SouthernStar Campers to Contact Matt on his Mobile or his email and have a yarn. :2tsup:

The Werribee Police are going to Contact me when they know anything of interest. I urge everyone to contact the Werribee police and state your position.
I don't have their phone number with me here. But I googled "werribee police" And got the number that way.

Thanks.

G'day .
As the starter if this threat, I'd like to sincerely thank, you and the other moderators of this forum for allowing this thread to continue to the point it has.

When I started it, I never realized that there were as many similarly affected people out there.

Over the time this thread has been running, I have conversed with virtually every poster here. Some have gone to extreme measures to try and recoup their items, owed by Southerstar Campers. The tyranny of distance has played into the hands of the individual at the heart of the problem. Because we (the shafted) are spread all across this country, he is isolated from 99% of us venting at him, face to face. I know some have traveled for days on end just to confront him, but alas, to no avail.

We, the posters here, seem to be only a small number of people that have been wronged by this person (I use the term "person" extremely loosely). The many forums based on outdoor activity also have similar threads as this one. Threads where people have been taken to the cleaners by the operator of Southerstar Campers and also his dealings on Ebay selling other items as well.

I (we) hope that now that the individual in question has been charged for crimes in the state of Victoria (This is a fact. The detective at Werribee stated that he has been charged with numerous charges) the truth may come out as to his shonky dealings over the last 12 to 18 months.

We have been through the correct channels for trying to recover our lost (stolen) money we paid for a Camper trailer. Consumer Affairs is the biggest waste of public funding in the country. They are toothless tigers. Full of talk but zero on action. The NSW Con Aff don't talk to The VIC Con Aff. Why the hell Con Aff is not an Australia wide single body is beyond me. Afterall in this day and age, interstate online trade is the norm, not the exception. We as comsumers, should be yelling load and clear to our elected members to give teeth to Con Aff on a national level so as to limit the type of fraudulent activity that has been perpetrated on us.

So in closing, I'd like to ask anyone that reads this thread after has closed it, to please contact me via PM if you still need any info. I will not be starting another thread on this subject, as I too feel it has run it's course.

I wish everyone well in their endeavors to reclaim what is owed to them. I feel we will not see a red cent of this however. But I an prepared to be corrected on this. :2tsup:

If anyone does get what is rightfully theirs, Please PM to let us know how you went?

Again, thanks to the Moderators for allowing this thread to remain active. Even when the thread gets locked, it should still be available to read indefinately (, Am I right in saying this?).

The Detective I spoke to at Werribee CIU stated that they are going through this thread, reading every post. Thus I assume they would also like the locked thread to remain visible for further reading.

Thanks again to all involved.
All the best.

Trevor. I have allowed this thread to stay open because part of my business is repairing and fitting out motorhomes and I can't tolerate any one who gives the industry a bad name.

The thread even though locked will remain visible.

If anyone has a good response to actions being taken PM me and I will post it.

Thank you all for the decorum and restraint you have shown in your posts under very emotional and trying circumstances.

G'Day Mate,

I'm the one with your camper over hear in WA. There is no kitchen, no 12v system, camper top is on, but the attachment to the trailer is not good, no dust seals, number plate light is damaged, water pump not wired up or plumbed.
It will cost approx $1500.00- $1700.00 to freight to Perth then another $1200.00 from Perth to your nearest depot.
The quality build of this camper is would not last 1 week with our conditions hear.
I believe the Vic Police will contact us when the insurance company wants to transport it. Currently it is located in our yard collecting iron ore dust.

Hope Scott goes to goal and hopefully he meets Bubba and his mates as we have lost alot of money on this as we ordered a hard top camper.

We tried to have the sherrif serve papers on him, but he couldn't be found (cause he was locked up) It would appear thta we have no chance of getting what is owed to us, as he has no assets at all. :2tsup:....Yes Scott Mackinnon has been Jailed for 16 Months in relation to the theft and fraud in relation to my Camper. least he got Jail time.
I eventually got my Insurance payout and went and bought a new one, from a legitimate seller and have been out a few times with it.
There were other Campers that he had Stolen and tried to on Sell But im not sure what has happened in relation to them wether this sentence is for it all, but from what I know and went through only a small number of people including myself gave Police Statements.

Suppose next time a guy tries to sell like this on Ebay or Anywhere, that people just need to be carefull. Get as many details as possable on who your dealing with especially if there Backyard ppl.

Thanx to those who have told their shocking stories involving Scott and their Campers But I wont be posting anymore Im going travelling very soon with my Camper..

yes i guess i was one of the lucky ones after so many drama's but i believe the trailer we ended up with (although it originally wasn't suppose to be ours:oo:) ended up being stolen from my work place a few weeks ago along with many other items that was in it
end result was insurance paid out and now i have a new one again
must admit trailer and tent was ok , trailer needed a lot of work to bring it up to speed but tent was good
in fact every time we used it i wanted to throw empty beer cans at it as all it did was remind me of squiddly diddly:((
so now i have a new GIC extreme off road and i have also lost that urge to throw things at it
hope Scott get's split from his lower body region all the way up to the back of his neck .
