Ive been browsing these forums for ages and joined quite some time back.
Finally dragged me but in to say gdy. lol

As per title am profitiant in the above thought major in boilermaking.

Ive just come on today to find out what sort of paint gun I should get to paint a picket fence Im knockin up.

I just bought a compressor 2.5hp 40lt 121l/m. It was a steal for $150 new, I know it is cheap #### but cannot justify a larger purchase. So if anyone has some recommendation on what type of paint gun to get speciffically one that will work within the 121l/m. The actual motor pumps at 232 l/mm so should get quick tank refills.

If I can help anyone out re metalwork issues, give me a buzz.

How's it going Bobbavet, welcome to the forum. I see you are from Maitland,- I was in Maitland only 1/2 hour ago but I'm thinking you're in Maitland in the Hunter valley as against SA. Yeah it's handy having various skills and saves you a packet. I'm probably a bit like you except I'm a carpenter by trade but have become pretty good in most of the other trades needed in house construction, alot by neccessity.I've recently made up a jig and cut all the steel for portals( c150) and pre drilled all the perlins/girts for a steel shed (15mtrs X 6.3) that I've yet to put up. Welding's not my favorite sport so I had a mate mig the portals together. As far as spraying a picket fence is concerned.-- I'm on a 12 acre property here and have put up alot of metres of zinc custom orb fencing. I started spraying it with my low pressure gun and small compressor(only 26 litres I think and that was also about $150) Anyway, a mate turned up with an el cheapo Wagner airless electric spraygun ( about $70) I reckon, and it did a better job, less overspray than the compressor job.I had a go with it,used good quality sunscreen acrylic, only thinned it minimally and it pumped it out pretty well. A small pot was the only drawback and it was a little bit slower, otherwise great. Cheers..Lenco

Thanks Lanco, yeh I might consider the Wagner but since I sprung for the compressor which I am using for nailgun, I could perhaps find a gun suitable.

On the nailgun.... I got a 15 gauge job from this local guy selling China jobs on Ebay, bloody good stuff. He also sell the $300 top tradies brand but told me the $150 Chinas were spot on.
I tested it with 38mm brad this morning. First time Ive used a nail gun and this thing was sweet straight outa the box. :2tsup:

Yeah Bobbavet, I probably should be replying to you on some other section of the forum so anybody reading this would you kindly inform me. Some of those chinese tools aren't half bad. There's a mob called Bell Carroll situated in Griffith and advertising on "Deals Direct" on line and they specialize in cheaper but good quality tools.I bought a fantastic 2.5 kva 4 stroke generator, a Honda clone for $170, unbelievable.Just recently I bought a Bell Carroll compound drop saw also $170 and even tho it aint a makita it's light and accurate, a little beauty.The best cheapie I've ever bought was from a Bunnings up in Brisbane a few years ago, a GMC hammer drill with jack hammer chizel bits for $70. I thought it was only a toy but it really is heavy duty and I've worked it to death chasing grooves in concrete and scabbling work and it's still going strong.Just recently I picked up a 1500 to 3000 watt inverter off E bay new for $160, only because I wanted to use my hammer drill breaking a hole through limestone on my property without dragging my genny around. Anyway, it works like a beauty.When I was working full time, top brands were the go but now in almost retirement I have got a few cheapies. Hey, try Paslode gas nail guns, no hoses etc. Cheers ,lenco.:U

metal/wood... amongst other materials.. that's me... Hi.:q..

I did my apprentiship in an old school motor body works in 70's Brisbane,, Enoggera.. I was put with an old polish bloke who was a camp survivor.. and blacksmith...
we built all sorts of motor bodies.. fire engines, ambulances... to tray backs and chip vans...
I learned to work a proper coal forge.. eventually on my own to do some jobs... none of the other blokes went near it.. or were taught... unless old Eugene took them under his wing... but in aussie fashion they all treated him like a foreigner.. with some ridicule ...
I lucked out as I had an old prussian/polish name....so they put me with him first day... he was an OK dude really...and he basically passed on all(some) of his skills in metal work .. welding..forging ,tool repair.. the "colours"..and temper methods.... and some woodworking, burning/aging side projects on wooden doors with forged hinged and handles... things he told me.. he wouldn't ever show those aussie "bastards",,, as he referred to most of the others in the place...

the world will miss his skills... I haven't always used them..

welding was handy... and I've built lots of things beginning with B out of steel/ali...
boats, buildings,barns,barriers,braziers,bull bars, busses, balustrates,...there's so many... sigh..

right now!! .... I'm trying to build Telecasters!!!!... getwanng!!

something about guitars.... and wood... and steel.... put together.... in an odd sort of way....

I've got lots of wood questions.... and combinations of woods veneer style/tops type of questions...

the "old bloke" up the road has a shed full of slabbed aussie cabinet timbers.. lots of board bits perfect for gluing together in many combos to get that "perfect tone".. aussie fashion...

burdekin plum, mountain ash, silky oak (lacewood,koff), "pink" blue gum... and others... a gold mine for guitar bodies... and a shed full of saws,mill type sized blades,,sanders,routers, thicknessers, drills,.....sigh...:p

all with an inch of crumbled dry grey wood on the outside of the stacked slabs... way old.... woo hoo!!!....

I guess I better teach him how to fashion good guitar bodies with his offcuts....:U....

G'day seeker33, in the early 70's when I was 24 I worked as a carpenter in the ways and works yard for the railways in Kalgoorlie and funnily enough they had an old (seemed old at that time) blacksmith working there. I reckon he was polish too but he amazed me with his welding skils with an old coke burning forge and a big hammer. Hey the telecasters sound good,- I wouldn't tell Mr. Fender about them though,ha ha ha:U. I make a noise on a guitar myself, an accoustic right now. I did start on making a solid body job years ago but it never got finished. You mentioned all those exotic timbers and I was wondering if they make a difference to tonal qualities .I only had a nice piece of meranti. I guess you make the body and buy the neck?. Hey a thought just slipped into my mind,- I met a guy in BunburyWA,a muso, who used to make guitars, necks and all. He showed me some of his creations with weird and wonderfull shapes but they were all accurate and playable.
