Hi everyone,
Firstly, I have no talents at all with woodworking.
This is a great forum...albeit a little over my capabilities.

I teach Mahjong to seniors in a volunteer capacity and most of the sets come in flimsy plastic covered cardboard containers which of course fall apart after a short time.

So I have come to the experts.

I am need of some small boxes as containers for my sets, which are quite heavy. I have tried to purchase some craft boxes, but the hinges fall off or the catches don't hold the contents. I teach at a number of places so they have to also be transportable

So my questions are......
1. are there any plans/designs out there for simple boxes, I thought like the old fashioned pencil cases with a sliding lid. They would need to be very simple and not require much in the way of tools.....don't want much do I? I am willing to make an attempt at a project....the result could be quite scary though.
2. are there any "crafty" chippies out there who make this style of container which I could perhaps purchase....I am after about 15-20. If I get any replies I can give further information on the dimensions...but approx 300 w; 200 d; 5h cm.
cheers

I know a factory are doing small boxes with the Santos Rosewood, Walnut, Maple, Oak.
But maybe they are too small. The normal sizes they are doing is 215*130*47mm.

G'day forjoyforjoy and welcome to our place.:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

Do they really need sliding lids?

Maybe some of our boxmakers could help out.

 I'm sure you can get slidie lid boxes at places like Lincraft or Spotlight. I don't know about the dimensions though. I think they are lnger and narrower. You would just have to paint them though. Bunnings also has some boxes in their craft section I think.

If you have a mens shed near by it could also be a project that they might tackle. The one I go to in Knox (Melbourne ) is always doing little projects for community groups.

The price of this kind of boxes is about AUD 20 in the beginning of this year. I am not very sure about the prices now.

You need someone local really. Maybe one of the Sydney forumites will be able to help you. Welcome to the forum anyway. Good luck with your boxes.
