Hi there,

I've just moved to Brisbane from the UK and I'm looking to continue woodworking as a hobby. I'm still at the beginner stage having completed a few furniture projects back in the UK. I'm hoping some local board members can help me get my bearings. I was thinking of doing a course to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge and learn about what timber is available locally - any suggestions? Also, I'm a bit short on tools and don't really have a space to use as a workshop, just a bit of outdoor space. Are there any community workshops or clubs in Brisbane that I could join to get access to some of the things I'm missing? Also can anyone point me in the direction of any places to get cheap tools/ timber. I'm guessing eBay and garage sales for tools and I've also found this thread http://www.woodworkforums.com/f14/timber-brisbane-74808/ but any extra guidance would be handy.

Great forum by the way, I've already found loads of great info.

Cheers

Ben

G'day Ben from the Uk. Welcome to Australia and the forums.:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

Depends on what you mean by "cheap tools". You can get good value for money tools at a number of places like Bunnings, Mitre 10, Trade Tolls Direct to mention a few. Worth doing a Yellow Pages search too.

Timber again depends on what you want to do. Good quality timber of different varieties comes from places like Lazarides. If you care to check out carbatec you will fimd tools and some timber there.

Good luck.

Welcome Ben, Nice to have you aboard,, Keep your eye on ebay becuase sometimes there are bargains to be had. Also worth keeping your eyes on the Market place on these forums. Good stuff advertised on there by the guys on the forum and they are pretty genuine with their description on the product they have on offer.
