Before I purchase the stains, etc. , I have a question. I am making a Jacobean desk and want it to look as if is hundreds of years old. The original furniture that I saw was made of oak and is almost black with age. I tried Miniwax's Jacobean stain and it does not approximate that color... it is merely dark brown. Can you assist me in providing the right materials for producing the results I want?

Use some bitumenous auto body deadener and thin it with turps.
You can get it to come out between brown and black if you experiment a bit.
