Good Evening Friends,
To ease the wear and tear on a dovetail bit, what can we do to remove some of the waste before routing with the dovetail?

you could use a straight bit to remove most of the waste as it is stronger than a dovetail bit. Or you could get a coping/fret saw, chisels etc and attack it the old fashioned way.

or buy a better dovetail bit.
I've heard blokes drill the wate out on a drill press....

I've tried cutting out some with a table saw.
Not quite to full depth and in from the edges.
Not worth the effort. I just go slow......I'm good at that.
I might be slow,
BUT Boy!! Am I rough :D :D

Good Evening Friends,
You are all correct because any method to remove waste before using the dovetail is worth the effort. Good job.
Respectfully, :)
