Hi All,
I'm working on a Music/Jewelry box made from Goncalo Alves.
There doesn't seem to be much info around on finishing.
The sources I have found say it takes a nearly mirror-like finish with just fine sanding and polishing. They also say grain isn't porous.
My experience seems to differ. I can get a fair polish but certainly not mirror-like and the pores are fairly apparent.
I've found a couple of references to using Tung oil.
Does anyone here have any experience finishing this stuff?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Roy.
