I've recently been to Japan and was amazed how waterproof there bamboo bowls are. The friend that I was staying at could even put them into the dishwasher. I'd like to extend my current production, but think that the varnish they are using is epoxy a type of resin that consist of toxics like lead.

My company have a eco-friendly approuch and I'm wondering if there are any alternative products that are eco-friendly, don't wear (resin makes the surface harder) out and can handle high temperatures.

Hi John and welcome to the forum!,

As far as I know epoxies dont contain lead. I think the concern would be the volatile amines released by heating the bowls.

Most of the bamboo bowls I have seen are thermo-moulded but I havent seen any since the 80's... Maybe a photo of what you are describing will help.
