Hi
It is now very easy to select which categories you would like displayed on the homepage and exclude them from new/todays posts. To do so please follow these instructions;
Goto your User CP
Then Edit Options http://www.woodworkforums.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you will see a new option named Forums to exclude from view:
116217
You can hide a single forums by selecting the title:
116218
Or to hide multiple forums, press and hold CTRL key while clicking on the forum titles:
116219
You can also choose to hide a whole category by simply clicking the category. This example hides the timber category:
116220
Using the above example, the sub forums for the Timber category will still show up in new/todays post searches. To ensure they don't, you will need to select each form title within the category:
116221
Please post any questions here!

That is a very useful addition to the forum options Steven, thank you for that (it will also save the Admins a bit of work:2tsup:)
One question, if you choose the to ignore one or more forums, does that also affect iSpy?

THanks Steve, great improvement, now I can eliminate most of the uninportant (to me anyway :D ) posts froom my list.
However is there a limit to the number of sections you can elim inate as I cannot eliminate sections under Myother loves not woodwork.
Peter.

Thanks for pointing that out, it you can now nuke as many forums as you like :)
Also an important point to remember is if you filter a category, you wont be able to view the sub-forum on the homepage even if that sub forum is set to visible.
Cat <- filtered
- sub1 <- filtered
- sub2 <- visible
- sub3 <- filtered
Sub2 will be invisible on the homepage but still show in search results
Cat <- visible
- sub1 <- filtered
- sub2 <- visible
- sub3 <- filtered
The category and sub2 will be visible on the homepage and continue to show in search results.

Sorry to be a nunce, but I can't find or don't have the Forums to exclude from view option since the update. It used to be there and I applied filters. I would like to modify my selections....

I am now required to use IE.
My version of firefox does not allow me to post replies by not allowing entry into the response box.
I can't get the slideshow of images.
I get a new posts section to the right of the forums that is very slow to display.
The forums come up quick enough but then it takes ages for this new posts thing to display.
It is not there in IE and I think I won't be there with IE either.
I'll view threads with firefox, live without the full size images and just have to live without doing posts.
It would be interesting to see the number of posts each week for the 4 weeks before the change and the numbers each week now.

I'm using FF 15.0.1 and everything "appears" OK except for the Forum filtering.

Gents, the Forums To Exclude From View was part of the iSpy plug-in.
The iSpy plugin is not available under the upgrade, therefore you cannot exclude forums from view.
Since this is a 2009 thread it is being closed, please put comments for the upgrade in this thread: http://www.woodworkforums.com/f36/so-sunday-forum-outage-158601/

Firefox 15 as well and can do everything except filter the forums, but I can't do that anyway as a mod.
Funnily enough we are getting more complaints from people using IE
