i have noticed after apply a oil based filler on an oil based stain that after burinishing the filler in it 'lifts' the stain out. has this happened before. i dont want to use a spirit stain because im french polishing. can anyone help?

Try a water based stain with oil based filler or oil based stain with water based filler. Neither are compatible with shellac so no problem there, neither are compatible with each other so there shouldn't be s problem there either.
One compatible + one compatible = a problem
Formula: 1c + 1c = :eek:
