Hello learned craftsmen (and women),

I am having a 5m x 3.5m shed professionally built in Western Red Cedar. I'm hoping for some recommendations for an unstained finish. The shed builder sells a product called Cedar Shield. I've been shown a sample of cedar coated in this product and it appears to deepen & redden the timber colour - I was hoping for as light a finish as possible. Could you please recommend a transparent product. I've looked at the Sikkens website and the Cetol Filter 7 maybe a contender. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

WRC will weather to one of the most pleasing grey colours, why don't you leave it unfinished? Less work, less money and better looking in time.

If you do finish it and don't keep up with the maintenance parts will go grey anyway and it will become a patchy looking shed.

The timber doesn't need finishing for durability, it is a very durable timber.

External paints /stains have a UV in them.
in reality, the darker the stain, the more UV in the product.
Read into this that clear stains contain very little, or no, UV protection.
I luv my grey looking timber.
Use quality durable products and drink beer or go motorbike riding - Painting is for covering up.
