Hi,

I was down Collins Street in the city today where I noticed a Crane located on a building nearby that had the cable hanging over the road (at a great height). Thus I would be intrigued to know if there are laws (OH&S) to state how a Crane should be left when not in use?

I watched the weather forecast tonight and they said it was going to get windier overnight.

Cheers

they always try and place them into the wind

From what I've seen, I believe they are left to swivel freely, so they always have the least wind resistance.

Yeah that's what they do with all the jib cranes on building sites over here. they usually take all of the rigging off of the hook when they're not in use as well.

Generally weathervane (free to swivel) here, too, to minimize wind load.

Best to remove accessories, and I haven't examined any recently, but occasionally hoist the tool box ( or compressor or generator ) to reduce theft. Probably better to land it (or them) on an upper story.

Regulations are usually one or two steps behind hazards, can get weird when they get ahead.

Cheers,
Joe

Hanging a huge Eureka flag from the hook helps with this.
