what sort of ant is this??

can you tell me what type of ant this is and a method of getting rid of it? the mrs has found about 12 in the house today, seem to be falling from the roof round the roof aircon vents and exhaust fans i think. last week i found a few while i was inside the roof and also several crawling over the roof on top.
damn annoying.
