It might sound silly to those in the know but with all the finishes masquerading as different products i think its a good question. is it polyurethane, polyurethane oil based varnish or some type of lacquer? is it oil or water based, what solvents are used and what is it compatible and comparable with?

It might be a lack of understanding on my part. i don't have a great understanding of finishes but i think this is partly due to confusing labeling and terms.

All of the above really.

Estapol is Wattyl's trade mark for clear wood finishes, the range includes solvent based finishes such as a single pack oil based polyurethane varnish, a 2 pack isocyanate cured polyurethane (7008) and waterbased clear wood finishes.

Looking up the MSDS (Google is your friend) for the particular Wattyl Estapol product will tell you exactly what it is and what it contains.

Hope that helps.
