hey there , just joined up the site looks pretty good !! got a few questions that have been itching my brain .... first i'm making a tv unit out of american oak n want to stain it a darkish brown colour but at the same time have my heart set on using a hard burnishing organoil to finish the timber , is it possible to use both ??? if so what brand of stain would be recommended ??? does the sanding process when oiling remove any or all of the stain ??? cheers !!!! Hi heymattwhat,

You can stain then oil. I try to use the same brand stain and oil (Wattyl or Cabots) as I've found some incompatibilities when using differnet stain and oil between the brands. I also let the stain completely dry so it doesn't rehydrate too much when I'm applying the oil and it will lighten in colour with oiling and/or sanding.

Cheers

Bryan
