Hello all,

For the past week or two, ww forums is inaccessable from my pc at home.I am using firefox 3~ on windows machine.

Site loads fine at work using IE on windows machine.

I have eptied cache, used cc cleaner to totally get rid of all old cookies etc, and to clean registry. All other sites are fine, it is just ww forums that will not load.

Any ideas???

When you say "won't load" what do you mean? Nothing comes up at all, or you get an error message?

I get an error message.

I think it is a timeout error but will have to check tonight and then respond tomorrow from this computer at work.
I don't have trouble with any other sites.

Ok. Here is a screen capture of the error message.

Any ideas why I can't connect to WW forums from my home PC anymore??

My best guess would be dot point #4, firewall settings issue.

If you don't have problems with any other sites, that would indicate that somehow you have changed the firewall settings for the forum on this PC.

Yeah tanks for the response Big Shed, but I checked that this morning and ZA firewall is not blocking it. I ven shut down ZA completly and then refreshed page to try to connect, and same error. Really confusiong. :? :? :?

OK, my best guess wasn't good enough:doh:

Have you tried using IE on your machine rather than Firefox? (grasping at straws here!)

That's a good suggestion.

I don't like IE but at least that would be a good test to see if it is FF realated.

I will give it a go tonight. Thanks. :)

Have you checked the network settings in FF?

Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings.

Make sure that it's set to No Proxy

In order to facilitate further troubleshooting, go into a command prompt and do a tracert to the woodworkforums web site.

This will tell you where the timeout is happening.

I've been using Google Chrome for the Woodwork Forums. Firefox has been doing funny things with the forum and wont remember the site and I have to keep re-logging in.

Do you use AdBlock within Firefox?

Hi again all.

Well some interesting results from my testing over the weekend.
I couldn't connect after doing all of the suggestions above. I thought perhaps WW forums may have been blocking my IP address, so I logged on through an online proxy in Russia. Although very slow.... (routing through dodgy proxy) I was able to acces the pages withoput a problem. So.... I believe that for some reason WW forums are indeed blocking my IP. Unforunately I have to wait an undetermined amount of time before my isp assigns another IP to me. I am told this could be today, or next year, and that it is an automatic process based on the needs of the network. I have tried to force an IP change through my router at home, but I didn't have any luck there either.

At least my wife is happy I am not scouring over the forums at home when I should be working!!

for some reason server load spiked when a backup was running, this would only account for errors between 4:10 and 4:20 pm though.

Also everything slows dramatically at midnight AU Eastern standard time for a few minutes when a heap of notifications are sent out. Usually only a couple of minutes at the most.

Just been through all your IP addresses Fossil and none are banned (blocked) from our site. If they were you would receive a message telling your IP was banners, your email address was banned, or you were banned.

All is fine at this end. Most likely a server problem at your end and being as how it's optus net they probably won't admit to there being anything wrong.

As a rule I would give you a new password and this seems to fix allmost all weird problems. However you are able to login from other sources so that isn't going to help.

Can you see the forums at all from your home computer? If not then the problem will definitely be at your end, as you would only be blocked from the forums if you tried to log in.

It definitely isn't at our end. Sorry

Cheers - Neil

Fossil, it may possibly be one of the following things.

Have you inadvertantly added the forum site to your filter on your AV software?

Have you been running a hosts file or software that updates one?

Contact your ISP to see if they have accidentally blocked the forum.

Thanks all for all the suggestions and assistance.

All is sorted now. I contacted the manufacturer of my router and they suggested turning router off overnight.

It worked. I don't Know why, but it worked. :D

Thanks again,

Fossil. :)

Just come on while having lunch and same thing Server Busy and Time out message

This will agree could be anywhere between my computer and WWF server.

I know Bigpddle's regional servers get mouldy/corroded during winter and cause problems.

Many years ago while on dial up Telstra fellow came to check the lines as we were having heaps of trouble. He checked everything said not close to the street even, went to main exchange and found they wer lucky not to have had a major meltdown. He called saying Íts green" almost every patch board was covered.:o:doh:

Nope same deal as yesterday. A script that has run for years without being noticeable, has been causing some problems over the last couple of days.

Its a separate issue to the one being discussed here
